Self-serve vs managed DV360

Three service tiers, three very different costs. Here's how to tell which one you actually need.

Guide · last reviewed February 2026

DV360 comes in three service shapes. License-only means you run everything in-house and pay for platform access alone. Supported adds onboarding, training, and escalation for a small uplift. Fully managed means the partner runs your media, priced as its own fee with a monthly floor. The right choice depends mostly on whether you have a trader in-house.

The three tiers

Partners package DV360 in roughly three ways, and the difference in cost between them is large.

Fully managedPartner runs the mediaSeparate fee, monthly floor

Who each is for

License-only fits teams with a skilled programmatic trader who want the leanest cost and full control. Supported suits teams that can run day-to-day but want a safety net for setup and tricky problems. Fully managed is for teams that would rather buy outcomes than operate the platform — and it usually only makes economic sense above a few million in spend, because of the floor.

The hidden cost of "cheap" license-only

License-only looks cheapest on paper, but it assumes you have someone who can actually run DV360 well. If you don't, the platform's advantages go unrealized and a managed engagement can deliver more for the money. Factor in the cost of the talent, not just the license.

How to decide

Start from your team. If you have in-house trading talent, license-only or supported keeps costs lean. If you don't, price out managed service and compare it against the cost of hiring. The partner you pick should be strong in the tier you'll actually use.

Common questions

What's the difference between license-only and managed DV360?

License-only gives you platform access to operate yourself. Managed means the partner runs your media for you, priced as a separate fee with a monthly minimum. Supported sits between the two.

Is managed DV360 worth the extra cost?

It depends on your team. Without an in-house trader, managed service often delivers better results per dollar than a cheap license you can't fully use. Above a few million in spend, the economics usually work.

Do all partners offer managed DV360 service?

No. Some resell licenses and provide consulting or training but don't run media. If you need hands-on management, confirm the partner offers it before you engage.
